Blog Assignment 1

Current Chem II students are required to post one question or response to one of the comments left by a previous Chem II Student.  Preferably a question that keeps the discussion rolling.  You will be graded and a lack of thought in your response will be penalized.

  1. If 50 mL of Sodium Carbonate is put into a swimming pool for cleaning, how much water is needed? Does the answer change if the Sodium Carbonate is still a powder, but has H2O's attached? (There can be 5 or 10 H20's).

  2. It would depend on the recommended molarity, which would depend on the measured pH of the water in the pool. I imagine that it should be close to neutral. It's existence as a hydrate would have an impact as it would increase the molar mass, which would in turn decrease the overall molarity created by the 50 mL.
