About the comments . . . .

Great comments so far, good questions from the Chem II'ers.

Former Chem II'ers now that you scared the current Chem II'ers away from college all together, tell them why/how it's manageable.

  1. The reason I find it most manageable is that, in high school, you're in school from 8-3 everyday, which is 35 hours over the course of a week. In college, if you take anywhere between 12 and 16 credit hours, that's the number of hours a week you will be in class. So even though you may get more homework than in high school, that's an extra 19-23 hours a week for homework time, as long as you use good time management.

  2. As long as you put in the time, you will do just fine in college. It is pretty much that simple. College basically is a full time job. Do 40 hours of work a week and you should be fine. Obviously that fluctuates where you need to spend more time on the harder courses and you could probably get away with less on the easier courses.

  3. You learn how to cope with a lot less sleep! Or utilize the most out of your day. Time management is a key skill to have in college. You learn to use that 2 hour interim between your classes to read that chapter or do an assignment. Find study groups and utilize professors, they will help you out a lot. Now if you plan on doing a sport in college. . . you need some A+ time management. It is all manageable and there will be free time, as long as you know how to manage.

  4. I find it at times more manageable because you get to decide how to use your time. I try to get in at least 8 hours of work a day. It can change depending on what's going on, but you can always attempt to get ahead as well. I also don't give myself distractions. When I want to study, I go into a study room or a quiet library where I'm not allowed to talk and where noise won't bother me. 3 hours of study time means nothing if you don't remember anything you studied. But doing this and staying ahead allows me a lot of free time to go to the clubs I'm in, hang out with friends, and exercise. (Also, free time isn't a bad thing. You NEED breaks otherwise you will burn out. Furthermore, get involved! College isn't ALL about grades. Doing things you're passionate or excited about will make the experience that much better.)

  6. There is plenty of time to get involved. The homework really isn't that bad and getting involved in clubs or sports will help you not stress as much which will probably help you do better on your homework, too.

  7. Kimberly, there is plenty of time to get involved. I'm taking 14 credits; I also have a job, and I'm in two clubs that meet two-three times a week. You just need to learn how to time manage. Usually my classes end around 12-ish and I study from 1-5 and then do something social with my clubs or work. It's difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it you're set.
